Melaleuca – Tea Tree Oil

Melaleuca, also known as Tea Tree oil, is a must have for every household. It is incredibly versatile and has a huge range of practical applications. It is best known for its purifying qualities, which make it useful for cleansing the skin and home surfaces, purifying the air, or promoting healthy immune function. My family especially enjoys the touch version which we carry in our diaper bag. If we get a bug bite or an owie at the park, we have a quick and safe way to apply essential oils to the skin to support immune response, repair functions and soothe the skin.

At home the number one way we use Melaleuca is for immune support. I keep a little bit of this essential oil in a small sample vial and when I start to get that ugly feeling in the back of my throat I am able to shoot a couple drops of oil back there (without it dripping all over my face and tongue, ew! It’s definitely an acquired taste!!), take a drink of water and get on with my day! For any problematic skin areas, we first turn to Melaleuca and Lavender. (While “spot-treating” with essential oils is highly effective, I never leave it at that, I always search for what is causing the concern I’m trying to deal with.) Adding a drop or two of this essential oil to your face wash, moisturizer, or shampoo is a simple way to reap the benefits of its purifying and toning properties.
